Business AI: the game-changer in predicting and enhancing employee retention

16 May 2023

The challenge of employee turnover

Employee turnover presents a significant challenge for organisations, affecting both productivity and costs. With recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), there are now more effective ways to predict and address employee retention.

AI-powered insights into employee retention

In a recent study, UNSW researchers, Professor Karin Sanders, Director of the UNSW Business Insights Institute, Andrew Dhaenens, and Mary-Anne Williams, examined the potential of AI to predict when employees might leave an organisation. They collaborated with Australian company Toustone to evaluate an AI system called RetainTalent, which uses machine learning to analyse data from various sources. This system helps organisations identify key factors that influence an employee’s decision to stay or leave, enabling more informed decisions about how to retain talent.

Uncovering patterns and designing strategies

The research highlighted that while predicting employee retention is complex, AI offers new possibilities by uncovering patterns in large datasets that might not be immediately apparent. These insights can help organisations design strategies to improve employee satisfaction and reduce turnover.
